I replaced the exhaust system on my Vette today. Having dealt with several different repro exhaust venders I thought I'd comment. I bought my system from Martin Johnson. mjexhaust@yahoo.com. I sent him an Email and got a phone call the next day asking a couple of details. Two days later I got an Email quoting price (VERY reasonable) and delivery time. I got a call from Mr. Johnson about a week later to clarify a detail. At the promised delivery time I received two big boxes. A quick check looked good.
Now other guy's systems all took a bit of massaging/cutting/welding/compromising to make them fit.
The Vette system, while not overly long, is quite complicated with complex bends, the pipes must pass through smallish openings in the frame and fit in very defined spaces and the mufflers can be seen so MUST fit correctly and on dimension. I approached the job with trepidation hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
The fit and finish was flawless. The installation went smoothly and looks perfect. If only every vendor of repro parts took the care to do it right. Thank you, Marty.

I had my exhaust done locally first by a hot rod shop that cut up my old pipes instead of separating them (thus making them garbage) and Magnaflows welded in place. There was MIG wire stuck to the pipe in some places. A year later, I was informed of Martin Johnson and I gave him a call. To his knowledge, my car now sports the last known NOS 56 Buick dual exhaust mufflers and I couldn't be happier. The system went in clean and easy. If I ever have the opportunity of owning another classic, I will do business with him again.
My last order from Marty was a muffler and tail pipe for my 55 Century. The muffler was a period manufactured NORS unit and of course fit well. The tail pipe was so long that oversize shipping rates would apply. Marty like me did not like the idea of a 2 part tail pipe so he sent me the specs (bend card) to have it done locally.
If only every vendor of repro parts took the care to do it right.
